Theresa Commerton Benkoski, 92 of Madison, died September 11, 2020. She was born December 21, 1927 in New York City. Her parents were the late, Thomas Joseph Commerton and Anna Gumb Commerton. Mrs. Benkoski worked for the National Biscuit Company before marrying. While there, she helped in production of rations for U.S. military service members during WWII. She was married to the late John Benkoski, Sr. The lived in Connecticut where they operated a dairy farm before moving to Morgan County, Georgia in 1950 and starting their dairy here. Mrs. Benkoski was a founding member of St. Anna’s Catholic Church in Monroe and later St. James Catholic Church in Madison. She was also active in helping start and build the Bostwick School.
Mrs. Benkoski was preceded in death by her husband, John. She is survived by seven children, Mary Jenkins & Paul, Ann Webb, Theresa Thrasher & Ernie, Tom Benkoski & Leona, John Benkoski, Jr. & Julie, Stanley Benkoski and Caroline Benkoski. Her grandchildren are Summer Jenkins, Paul Jenkins, III & Kim, Elizabeth Sanders & Dewey, Emily Wilkins & Luke, Jeffrey Thrasher & Michele, Katelin Benkoski, Alissa Benkoski, Leah Benkoski, Brandon Ford, Anna Marie Thorpe & Anthony, Bryant Benkoski & Abigail, Brittany Smith & Kyle, Bradley Benkoski & Allie and John Travis Benkoski. She also leaves 22 great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 16 at 2 PM at the Benkoski Family Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to St. James Catholic Church.
