Terry F. Byer, 79 of Rutledge, GA, passed away on September 25 at this home, after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Kansas to Naomi and Dave Byer.
Terry spent 30 years serving his country as an explosive and bomb expert. He began his career at 20 as a U.S. Navy machinist mate and then went on to dive school and special operations explosive ordnance disposal. He served in Vietnam, deployed during the Cold War and retired as a Master Chief EOD. Upon retiring from the Navy he continued to serve his country as an explosives and arson investigator with the ATF attached to many national and international response teams. Terry was recognized personally by President George Bush, Sr and past director of the FBI, Louis Freeh at the White House. After 10 years of service with the federal government, he then went on to open a successful real estate brokerage selling horse farms and land in and around Morgan County.
Terry is survived by his wife of 34 years, Andrea Byer and his two children, Renee Cobb (Dennis) and Terry Byer, Jr. (Gloria), two grandchildren, Nicholas Cobb (Joanna) and Carleigh Cobb, and two great grandchildren, Lily and Milo. He is also survived by his brother, Steve Byer, many beloved brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Naomi and Dave Byer and his sister, Jody Bruce.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 30 from 1:30-3:30 PM at A.E. Carter Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 30 at 4:30 PM at Pennington Methodist Church, Madison.

Terry was a kind-hearted man who loved God, his country, family, friends, dogs, horses, old cars and fishing. He will be greatly missed by all.
