Steve Cisson Obituary

Steve Cisson, age 71 of Madison, Georgia passed away peacefully at home on April 15, 2024. He was born in Toccoa, Georgia on July 3, 1952 to Leroy and Helen Cisson. Growing up, he attended Stephens County schools and graduated from Stephens County High School. Steve then attended the University of Georgia and after graduating in 1975, he was hired by the Morgan County Board of Education as a teacher and coach.

Steve spent his entire professional career at Morgan County High School where he filled many roles. He taught Math, Drivers Education and Physical Science. He was also the DCT coordinator and ISS instructor. Steve’s coaching duties included football, girls’ basketball, baseball, golf, track, and girls fast pitch softball. While coaching, his girls’ basketball team won a state championship in 1983 and his girls’ fast pitch softball teams won three state championships in 2002, 2003 and 2005. There were also many region championships through the years. After concluding 31 years as a teacher and coach, Steve then held the position of Athletic Director for 10 years at Morgan County High School. He was a great supporter of MCHS athletics. He loved his students and players with the goal of trying to make them better people.

Steve married the love of his life, Vicki Lord Cisson in 1980 and they had a daughter, Erin Cisson Miller in 1984. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed golf, camping and loved pulling for his Georgia Bulldogs and Atlanta Braves.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Helen Cisson. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Vicki, daughter, Erin Cisson Miller and her husband, Drew Miller along with granddaughter Annie Miller. He is also survived by his sister, Carole Kelly of Conyers and brother, Dan Cisson and wife, Donna of Toccoa and numerous nieces and nephews.

Both the visitation and the service to honor Steve will take place on Sunday, April 21, 2024 at the Morgan County High School gym. The family will begin seeing visitors at 1:00 pm followed by the service at 3:00 pm.
