Shirley Stewart Obituary

Shirley Faye Mealer Willoughby Stewart, a lifelong resident of Madison, passed from this life to her Heavenly home on Saturday, November 28, 2020 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family at home.

Born December 13, 1949, Shirley was the daughter of the late Hubert Wayne and Erma Long Mealer of the Apalachee community. For many years Shirley raised her family, as well as many other neighborhood kids, but later began a working career and retired from the United States Postal Service after 18 years as a rural carrier.  Shirley had many talents and interests- she cooked the best cathead biscuits in town and ironed a mean crease in a pair of britches- but mostly she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend and was always most happy when she was spending time with her loved ones.

She was preceded in death by her husband Weyman Willoughby, and her daughter, Jeanette Willoughby McKenzie.

She is survived by her husband Pete, daughters Michelle Sissy Willoughby, and Buddy Pitts; Marsha Stewart, and Julie; Candace Stewart Thomas, and Greg; and son Drew Stewart, and Morgan. She is survived by her grandchildren, Whitney Smith Bradshaw, and Brinkley; Hillary McKenzie Reaves, and Caleb; Hannah McKenzie Bennett, and Mitchell; Mack McKenzie, Mandy Willoughby, Brittany Heusser Maxey, and Brandon; Bobby Heusser, Georgia, Clara, and Benton Thomas, Grady Stewart, and Sydney Pitts as well as her great-grandchildren Camryn, Brinkley, Preston, Clay, Lilli, Austin, Weyman, Elliott, Addie Mae, Brady, and Jax Hewell. She is survived by her sister, Jenny Blanton and brother Douglas Mealer.

She loved that she shared her birthday, December 13, with her grandson Mitchell, and nephews Matt Stewart and Andy Frost.

Services were held on Monday, November 30, at AE Carter Funeral Home Chapel with interment at the Madison City Cemetery.

The family would like to express our sincerest gratitude for the many prayers and love shown to us during this time.
