Mrs. Sharon Ann Weidinger Faes, RN, BSN of Madison, GA, passed away on April 28th, 2026, at the age of 78. She was born on her family’s farm in St. Elizabeth, MO, in October of 1947, to Joseph and Emma Weidinger. While still relatively young, Sharon was preceded in death by her father. The early loss revealed her inherent strength, discipline, and family devotion, which were hallmarks of her life, along with her faith in God. She appreciated the simple joys of a small, close-knit community, including time with her mother, older brother Bob, and younger brother Bill. Sharon was a gifted student and clarinet player, a member of the high school softball and basketball teams, and an impressively knowledgeable life-long sports fan! After graduating in 1965 from St. Elizabeth High School, in a class of 25 students, she attended reunions with schoolmates who were dear friends, long after her time in Missouri.
After saving the family cat from a snake bite as a young girl, she knew her calling was in nursing. Sharon attended the University of Missouri and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1969, completing a rigorous 5-year curriculum in only 3.5 years. She met her husband, John, in Denver, CO, in the fall of 1971, at the beginning of her 35+ year nursing career. Sharon’s professional experience included work in the novel field of kidney transplants at the University of Colorado Medical Center. She then had a stint at the U.S. Army Hospital in Frankfurt, Germany, while living and adventuring abroad during the first few years of marriage. After the birth of her two daughters, Sharon returned to work on a PRN basis at Doctors Hospital in Augusta, GA. She later devoted most of her years in nursing to the cardiac unit at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA. She was well-known and respected at the hospital, where she also had the opportunity to advance to nurse manager before choosing to re-focus on patient care. Sharon worked many night shifts and challenging schedules, allowing her to remain active in her church and deeply dedicated to her family. In her final years before retirement, Sharon moved from the cardiac unit to the transplant clinic.
John and Sharon moved to Morgan County in 2015. In her later years, Sharon enjoyed returning to a smaller town and a slower-paced life in historic Madison, GA. She devoted herself to service as an active member of St. James Catholic Church. She played bunco and thrived in her neighborhood community. She continued to delight in any time spent with family and was an avid reader.
Sharon was preceded in death by her older sister Norma Lee; her father Joseph; her mother, Emma; and her older brother Bob. Sharon is survived by her husband of 53 years, John; her daughter, Lara and son-in-law, Drew; her daughter, Andrea and son-in-law, Jason; her grandsons, Ben, Will, and Cullen King, and David and Wesley Denton; and her younger brother, Bill.
Funeral services will be held at 12 PM, Friday, May 8th, 2026, at St. James Catholic Church in Madison, GA, with Father Thanh Liem Nguyen officiating, followed by a reception in the church gathering hall. Interment will take place at approximately 3 PM at Honey Creek Woodlands in Conyers, GA. A change of footwear is recommended for those attending. The family will receive guests from 6 to 7 PM, with a prayer service from 7 to 8 PM on Thursday, May 7th, at A.E. Carter Funeral Home, in Madison, GA.
