Samuel Glynn Masters, Jr.

Samuel Glynn Masters, Jr., 78 of Madison, passed away on June 2, 2023. 

Sam was born April 17, 1945 in Ellenwood, GA to Glynn and Ila Masters.  Sam grew up in Ellenwood, served in the US Navy and in 1971 was married to Jean Bishop.  Sam and Jean were happily married for over 52 years – so much so that it’s almost impossible to write Sam’s name without including Jean.  Their names just go together.

Sam and Jean lived and raised their children in Ellenwood among their close family until moving to Buckhead in 1997.  Sam worked as a home builder and realtor for over 35 years.  Among his many skills, Sam was a talented woodworker.   He loved being outdoors, fishing and birdwatching.  The outdoors was a common subject of Sam’s other hobby – photography.   Beyond photos of nature, Sam was particularly adept at capturing candid images of family and friends that spoke volumes.

Sam was a member of Madison First United Methodist Church.  Sam especially loved and appreciated the men’s group at Madison First UMC and was a dedicated disciple of Christ and student of the Bible.

Sam Masters is survived by his wife, Jean and their two children, Jennifer Masters-Payne (Jason) and Jason Masters (Pam) and grandchildren, Cole and Brody Freeman and Jackson and Barrett Masters as well as a sister, Joy Roberts.  He was preceded in death by a sister, Jane Jarrell.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 8 from 6-8 PM at A.E. Carter Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be held in the chapel on Friday, June 9 at 2 PM.  Interment will follow at the Madison City Cemetery.
