Robert Williams Obituary

Robert “Bob” Byron Williams (69) of Watkinsville, Georgia passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on June 30, 2021 at Augusta University Medical Center in Augusta, Georgia.

Bob was born October 1, 1951 to the late Byron Williams and Mildred Osborn Williams.  Raised in Watkinsville, Bob graduated from Oconee County High School in 1969.  In high school he was a proud member of the first Oconee Warrior Football team.  After high school Bob joined the United States Marine Corps and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War until 1972.  After his years in the Marine Corps Bob continued to serve his country as an employee of the United States Postal Service until he happily retired at the age of 55.

Bob enjoyed spending endless time with his family.  He loved being outdoors and at any given time he could be found in the woods hunting or fishing on the Oconee or the mighty Altamaha Rivers.  Bob enjoyed traveling (beach trips were his favorite), RV camping, music and playing the drums, making people laugh by telling jokes, and taking the path less traveled.  Bob also enjoyed motocross racing, the Atlanta Braves and the Georgia Bulldogs.  He was always present at grandkids, nieces and nephews sporting events, plays and dance recitals. Bob was a proud member of the Athens Marine Corps League, the VFW and the NRA.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Betty Jo Williams. He is also survived by their children Christie (Keith) Austin of Covington, GA, Cade (Kellee) Williams of Gainesville, GA, Joe (Casey) Callaway of Watkinsville, GA, Tony (Carrie) Williams of Nicholson, GA, Cody (Brittany) Callaway of Bishop, GA.  He will be dearly missed by his beloved grandchildren Chase (Kristen) Thompson, Anna Williams, Brandon Williams, Jillian Callaway, Dakota Callaway, Lyla Callaway, Waylon Callaway, Amelia Williams, and Eli Williams.  Bob has numerous nieces, nephews, in laws and friends that will miss him beyond measure.  Bob is also survived by his two brothers David and Chuck Williams of Watkinsville, GA.

Family and friends will be received at A.E. Carter Funeral Home in Madison, GA on Friday, July 2, 2021 from 5pm to 8pm.  Services will be conducted on Saturday, July 3, 2021 at 1pm at the funeral home with   Pastor Calvin “Sonny” Ward officiating.  Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Athens Marine Corps League.  Pallbearers are Lee Stinchcomb, Terry Stewart, Anthony Hefner, Lafe Hansford, Josh Anderson, Chad Stinchcomb, Randy Stinchcomb, and Garrett Stinchcomb.  Interment will be at Madison Memorial Cemetery, Madison, GA.
