Robert Alan Richardson
Robert Alan Richardson aged 64 died on October 5th after a brief illness. He was born on January 27th, 1957 to Dewey and Ila Richardson of Rutledge. He is survived by his wife Sheryl Hudson Richardson and children Brett and Andrea. He is also survived by brothers Terry and Alvin Richardson.
Alan was a star athlete at MCHS in the 1970’s. He was the point guard on perhaps Morgan’s best team to that point in history and was an outstanding member of the Bulldog baseball squad which was the most successful in school history to that point in time. He later played college basketball and baseball at Georgia College becoming one of the few athletes in Morgan County history to letter in two sports at the collegiate level. He played alongside his brother Alvin and often said it was his proudest moment to get to play with his brother in college.
Alan went on to coach and teach in high school for thirty years. He was an outstanding basketball coach at Greene County, Burke County and Winder-Barrow High Schools. He was named Area Coach of the Year for the Augusta Chronicle and the Athens Banner-Herald during his career.
His funeral was held on October 9th at Centennial Baptist Church with his brother Terry officiating. Internment was at the Rutledge Cemetery.
