Robert Cleveland Burt, Sr.

Robert C. Burt, Sr., 80 of Madison, passed away on February 9, 2025.  Mr. Burt was born in Athens, GA on January 20, 1945 to Henry and Desser Parker Burt.  Mr. Burt began his career with John Deere as a Service Technician for Morgan Tractor Company in 1973.  In 1983, the company transferred to Greenfield Equipment.  Continuing his career, he was promoted to Service Manager in 1985 and later retired in 2002.  Robert was a skilled handyman who could fix or repair nearly anything, from cars to construction projects.  After retirement, he pursued his interest in his woodworking and enjoyed spending time with his family.  Following the passing of Margaret Greenway, he found love again with Rita Kimsey Harris, who brought immense happiness to his later years.    

Robert Burt is survived by his wife, Rita and his two children, Ginger Burt Bruce (Charles) and Robert C. Burt, Jr (Ashley); grandchildren, Nicole Williams  (Josh), Rodney Wynne (Kelsey), Trey Bruce (Kristin), Abby Speed (Ryan), Hailey Riviere and Peyton Burt, and Lizzy Grace Harris; his seven great grandchildren, Walker and Sutton Williams, Celia and Matt Bruce, Amelia and Laurel Speed, and Emma Davis.  He is also survived by a brother, Jimmy Burt, a sister Carol Brooks as well as many nieces and nephews.

As we mourn the loss of a remarkable man, we also celebrate the extraordinary life he led.  Robert's legacy will serve as a reminder to live with purpose and value family.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 12 from 5-7 PM at A.E. Carter Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be held in the chapel on Thursday, February 13 at 11 AM.  Interment will follow at the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Bank of Madison where an agricultural and mechanical scholarship has been established in Mr. Burt’s memory.
