Raymond H. Rousseau, 78 of Social Circle, passed away on May 17, 2024 at his home. Ray was born September 28, 1945 in Kansas City, KS to Harold and Gloria Graffin Rousseau. He was married to the late, June Craig. . Ray was a real patriot. He served his country as a Proud Marine and was deployed as part of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit in 1968 to the Republic of South Vietnam. Ray was a crew chief on Marine Fighter Jets, primarily A-6 Intruders. After his active duty years Ray worked for many years as a Building Supervisor and Maintenance Technician. Ray was an active member of Rutledge Baptist Church for 20 years where he served as a Deacon, Assistant Treasurer and Chairman of the Building and Grounds Committee. He was honored at Homecoming in 2021 for his many years of dedicated service to The Lord. Ray was also an active member of Oscar Thomason VFW Post 2557 and a member of the Golden Age Veterans in Covington, Georgia. Most of all Ray enjoyed and loved helping others. He served faithfully in the Deacon Family Ministry at Rutledge Baptist Church and could be found serving others in various ways whether it was simply running errands, taking folks to appointments and oftentimes doing home repairs for shut-ins and/or widows. Ray was actively involved in the Gideon Ministry and participated in Bible distributions at hotels/motels, schools, nursing homes and at the University of Georgia. He was always ready with a pocket-sized Testament when opportunity presented itself for a personal word of witness. Ray Rousseau loved his family, friends, church and most of all he loved Jesus and put his faith entirely in Him. He will be sorely missed.
Ray Rousseau is survived by his daughter, Raychelle Rousseau and those he referred to as his chosen children, Dora Hendrix & Joe Henry, Steven Holmes and James Barrett. He leaves three grandchildren, Seth, Gabe and Michael. Ray Rousseau leaves behind siblings, Mary Rousseau Schonfer and Robert Rousseau & Cindy as well as nieces and nephews that were very special to him. He was preceded in death by his wife, June and his parents as well as a sister, Kathy Rousseau and a brother-in-law, Roy Schonfer, Sr.
A memorial service will be held at Rutledge Baptist Church at 11 AM on June 4, 2024.
