Raymond Wilson Hill, “Ray”, 68 of Shady Dale, passed away November, 11, 2023. Ray was born in Rockdale County on October 11, 1955, to the late Marion W. Hill and Julia Jones Hill. He grew up working hard on the family dairy farm and he never lost this work ethic. In 1978, he married the girl down the road, Nina Christian, and they raised two wonderful children, Landon and Jenna. In 1989, Ray and Nina bought land and a farmhouse in Morgan County in order to raise their children in a rural farming community much like the one where they were raised.
Ray was a very intelligent man and throughout his life he would take an idea and bring it to fruition through many types of small businesses. Ray also had several hobbies, one of which was riding his Harley that had a cowbell alerting everyone when he was near. He and his favorite traveling companion, Nina, put thousands of miles on his beloved Harley traversing the United States. He never met a stranger and they made friends everywhere they went.
Ray was also a gardener. He liked to grow fresh vegetables each spring. Raising chickens was also one of his favorite things to do. He was always ready to show his granddaughters and any visitors his beloved chickens, sharing eggs with them at any time.
Ray was a very giving man and would always help anyone in need. More than anything, Ray loved his family. He helped to care for his mom, assisted his son with his own small business, and even helped his daughter with many home improvement projects. He loved his wife and made sure that his family was well taken care of. At the end of a long day of work, Ray loved to kick back in his “happy place” which was a chair at the corner of the house where he would watch his hummingbirds and be content with the simple life God had given him. Ray is survived by his wife, Nina and their two children, Landon Hill (Lauren) and Jenna Stevens (Adam). Also surviving is his mother, Julia Hill, and grandchildren: Mazie and Jovie Stevens and Caidley Hill and a baby boy due in February. Ray also leaves a sister, Dodie Proctor (Phil). He was preceded in death by his father, Marion W. Hill and a sister and brother-in-law, Judy Norman and Guy Norman III.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 19 from 1-4 PM at A.E. Carter Funeral Home in Madison. A memorial service will be held in the chapel at 4 PM.
Memorials may be made to Nathaniel Greene Academy, POST OFFICE BOX 109 SILOAM, GEORGIA 30665.
