Randy Maughon Obituary

On Saturday, March 25, 2023, Randall (Randy) D. Maughon, left his earthly body behind to go to his eternal home to be with his Heavenly Father. He was many things to many people. He was a loving, kind, and compassionate husband, daddy, granddaddy, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew, friend, and Deacon. He enjoyed playing the drums & bass guitar, listening to southern gospel music, working, hunting, fishing, and coaching. He enjoyed a successful career as a general contractor for many years. He was a member of Head of Tennessee Baptist Church where he served and worked together with his family in the children’s ministry. He was always surrounded by “his kids” who most affectionately called him Granddaddy.

Randy’s greatest joy in life and what he lived and worked for was his family. He and his wife of 42 years, were high school sweethearts. Their love was rare and true of which many do not get to experience.  His daughter was the light of his life – one of which will never go out. His grandchildren meant everything to him and he could never get enough of them. There was nothing that Granddaddy would not do for them. He rarely missed an opportunity to spend time with his family from playing ball in the yard, to going out to eat, attending sporting events, and family vacations among many others. They all shared a bond and closeness that will remain unbroken. He loved each of them his entire life. Never was a man so committed and faithful to his family.

He is survived by his wife, Detra Key Maughon, daughter, Lauren Maughon Burrell, and grandchildren, Presley Lynn, Zane Scott, and Zeb Sawyer, all of whom reside in Rabun County, Georgia. He has 2 siblings and many “brothers and sisters”, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews. Randy was preceded in death by his parents, D.D. and Evelyn Maughon.

Love, Daddy, Granddaddy,
We will be forever grateful for every second that we were able to be with you. There will never be another who loved us so much and so unconditionally. Words cannot express how much love we have for you. We will cherish every memory that we made together as a family. We know you were physically worn out and so tired that you just could not go on so it’s ok that you went home to rest and be with Jesus. Your work on earth is finished. We know we will be with you again in Paradise. We love you!!
