Ralph Collins Reed, Jr.
Ralph Collins Reed, Jr., age 78, passed away Tuesday, April 13, 2021. He was born February 13, 1943, in Cleveland, MS, to the late Ralph and Lorraine Reed. He graduated from Northside High School in Atlanta and attended Emory University. He was a member of the U.S. Army Reserves serving as a Decoding Expert. Ralph started his career with Western Electric and while working graduated from Oglethorpe University. He worked for Western Electric, Southern Bell and retired from BellSouth in 2001.
Ralph had many hobbies and interests. Over the years he enjoyed caving, sailing, woodworking and hunting. He was an avid trap shooter and pilot. He loved to travel with his wife JoEllen going on cruises and trips in their RV.
Ralph is survived by his wife and best friend JoEllen, his brother Mike (Betsy) Reed of Woodstock, GA, his sister, Susan (Mike) Dempsey of Seneca, SC, his step-brother G. Ray Eubanks of Boulder, CO, his step-sister Georgann Eubanks, Carrboro, NC, his sister-in-law Kathy Alshouse of Ocala, FL, his nephews Chris (Sara) Dempsey of Arlington Heights, IL, Danny (Mila) Dempsey of Columbus, IN and Mark (Lara) Dempsey of Atlanta, GA and five great-nieces and nephews, Isla, Graham, Caleb, Mason and Maya Dempsey. Mr. Reed was preceded by his parents as well as his step-mother, Virginia Eubanks Reed.
The family will receive friends on Friday, April 16 from 10 AM – 12 Noon at A.E. Carter Funeral Home 1670 Atlanta Highway Madison, GA. A graveside service will be held at a private cemetery at 3 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Ralph’s honor to a charity of the donor’s choice.
