Patricia Hensley Givens
Patricia Hensley Givens passed away on Saturday November 19, 2022 due to complications from a previous stroke and dementia. She was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Givens, her parents, Georgia Tamplin Hensley and Grady “Shorty” Hensley and her son-in law, John W. Keeter.
Patricia grew up on a dairy farm in Morgan County, Georgia where she developed her love of horses. After graduating from Morgan County High School, Patricia attended Piedmont College, earning a physical education teaching degree. Patricia taught at Forest Park Junior High and then North Clayton Junior High before leaving the profession to take care of her family and raise her daughters.
Patricia was known for her love of family, camping, live music (whether it be country music or Broadway shows). She spent many summers and weekends at the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds camping with her family and friends while catching a concert or attending the Georgia Mountain Fair. She was known for her hospitality, quick wit and sage advice, whether you wanted it or not. Patricia loved sacrificially by serving every year as a room mom, Girl Scout Leader or providing support to whatever crazy activity her girls were involved in- well into adulthood. Patricia was a loving and supportive wife and mother. She often was the source of strength in the background while others shined. She always welcomed all the neighborhood kids to the house at any time. Patricia was delighted when her grandchildren were born and loved them dearly.
Patricia Givens is survived by her daughters, Sheryl Givens Gantz (Stephen) and Patrece G. Keeter, and her grand children, Olivia Ann Keeter and John-Marshall H. Keeter, and her “sisters” Barbara Poling and Judy Presley (Olin). The past 13 years have been difficult for the family since Patricia’s life altering stroke and the family wishes to thank everyone for their love and support. Visitation will be at 1 pm on Wednesday, November 23rd followed by a celebration of life at 2 pm at AE Carter Funeral Home, Madison, GA. Interment immediately after at Madison City Cemetery.
