Olena Jackson Eaton, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2025, at the age of 96. She was born on February 6, 1928, in Pickens County, Georgia, to Gus and Minnie Moss Jackson. Olena was preceded in death by her husband, Verner Lee Eaton, and her sons Charles Eaton, Carl Eaton, David Eaton, and Harold Shelton. She was also preceded by daughters-in-law Diane Eaton and Pennie Eaton.
Olena leaves behind a large and loving family, including her children Lamar Eaton and Nancy Addy of Buckhead, Randy and Peggy Eaton of High Shoals, Mike and Vivian Eaton of Buckhead, Charlotte and Clay Odom of High Shoals, and Verner Lee and Gail Eaton of Madison. She is also survived by daughter-in-law Rhonda Eaton of Eatonton and daughter-in-law Kathy Shelton of Monroe, along with 18 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Olena had a strong work ethic throughout her life, starting with her first job at a plant in Atlanta that made chairs. She went on to work at a sewing plant in Madison and later at a stuffed animal factory in Madison. She was also known for her caring nature, working in the lunch room at Morgan County High School, where she enjoyed interacting with the students.
A devout Christian, Olena was a lifelong member of Bethany Baptist Church, where she found support and community.
Her legacy lives on through her family and the many lives she touched throughout her years. Olena will be remembered for her unwavering love, dedication to her family, and the kindness she showed to everyone she met.
She will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
The family will receive friends at A.E. Carter Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 28 from 11:00 AM until 12:30 PM. The funeral service will be held at 12:30 in the chapel. Interment will follow at the Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery.
