Nancy Lee Avery, age 96, passed from this life last Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at her condominium in Madison. Nancy, affectionately known as Shug to her family and closest friends, was born April 17, 1924 to Isaac Morgan Avery, father, and Willie Lee (West) Avery, mother. She graduated from Madison High School in 1941 then attended Madison Business School. She was employed by Caldwell & Co., a cotton gin and oil mill, for seventeen years and by Morgan Memorial Hospital in the business office for nineteen years. She then began her true vocation of caring for her various family members beginning with her own dear mother. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Madison, Georgia.
She and her sister Anna Carolyn Avery resided together for decades at their home located at 465 Pine Street, Madison. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Helen (Avery) Bell Lawrence, her brother Wesley Jackson (Pete) Avery, her brother Hugh Morgan (Snooks) Avery and her sister Anna Carolyn Avery, her niece Lee Anne (Bell) Cunningham and her niece Frances (Bell) Wingfield. She is survived by a number of second cousins.
A graveside service has held Thursday, August 27, 2020 at 1 p.m. followed by a reception at her condominium. Burial is in the old Madison Cemetery.
Her family wishes to express its appreciation to Madison Health and Rehab where Nancy resided for several years; to her neighbors of 30 plus years Lucy and Ralph Bennett; and to her full-time caregiver Gerryline Wade, all of Madison.
