Mary Lynn Zachry – September 14, 1946 – November 20, 2024
With great sadness for our loss but with a deep appreciation for the life that she lived, the family of Lynn “Mammy” Zachry announces her death on November 20, 2024 after a brief illness.
She was born in 1946 in Athens, Georgia to Lawrence Rains and Mildred Edwards (nee Turner). She grew up in Atlanta where she was raised by her beloved “Granny”, Aunt Mary Bingham. She graduated from O’Keefe High School in 1964, and after attending the Atlanta College of Art, married Mike Hill of Jacksonville, Florida where they lived and had 2 daughters. In 1976, she returned to Atlanta and then in 1980, was remarried to the late A.R. “Zack” Zachry and moved to Madison, Ga where she lived until her passing.
Mary Lynn Zachry, a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones. Known for her green thumb, she found immense joy in gardening, creating vibrant spaces that reflected her nurturing spirit. The Queen of the Red Hat Society, Lynn embraced life with laughter, flair, and an infectious sense of camaraderie. She cherished her road trips, often venturing across states to visit family and friends, weaving her way into countless hearts along the way. Lynn’s warmth, boundless energy, and love for simple pleasures left a lasting impression on all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered through the beautiful memories she cultivated, both in her garden and in the lives of those she touched.
In addition to many loving family members and dear friends, she is survived by her daughters, Cathy McAdams (Matt Daugherty), Mikki (Alan) Ward, and her grandchildren that she adored: Ross McAdams, Macki (Russ) McHugh, Robert Ward, Grace Ward, Jeanie (Jamie) Jenkins, and Kyle (Lela) Ward, and her inspiration to finally retire – her great-grandchildren: Hadleigh, Owen, and John Michael McHugh, EllaRyan Cottrell, Trip Jenkins, and Cora Ward.
The family will receive visitors at A.E. Carter Funeral Home, 1670 Atlanta Highway, Madison, GA 30650 on Saturday, November 23, from 1-3PM, followed by a Memorial Service in the chapel at 3PM. In lieu of flowers, friends and family are encouraged to make a donation to their favorite charity in Lynn’s honor.
