Laura Ivey Rowland of Madison passed away at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta on October 1, 2023. Laura was born September 19, 1954 to Andrew and Elizabeth Ivey. She was a graduate of Morgan County High School and Georgia Military College (GMC). She met her husband, Jim while attending the GMC extension campus in Madison.
Laura was a member of the Madison Baptist Church, and she and her husband, Jim, were married there on December 12, 1998. Laura retired from Reynolds on Lake Oconee in 2021. According to Dave Short, Senior Vice President of Reynolds, Lake Oconee, “Laura served Reynolds tirelessly and faithfully for over 30 years. After starting as a housekeeping manager in 1990, she followed that role with a tenure in events and event coordination where she always exceeded expectations, and never looked at the clock. But her longest stretch came at the front desk for the real estate operation where she had custody over a 15 year stretch of literally dozens and dozens of real estate agents, no small task in and of itself, and one probably worthy of a combat infantry ribbon. Additionally, Laura was, for literally thousands of customers, their first impression of Reynolds, very often on the phone but almost always as the first face that they saw when they showed up here from all over the world to take a closer look at Reynolds. How very fortunate for them, and for Reynolds that this was the case. Her warm greeting and cheerful countenance launched thousands of new relationships here. Her legacy surrounds us all every day, and Reynolds is a better place for all that Laura did.” She loved reading, cooking, gardening, and watching the birds, butterflies, and hummingbirds from the deck in her backyard. Laura always maintained a wonderful, resilient spirit in spite of the many medical issues that she had to contend with in recent years.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Elizabeth Ivey. She is survived by her husband, Jim, her sister, Andrea McCue (Del), her niece Julianne Boyle, and her nephew, Tracy McAllister.
