Lemuel Arvelow (L.A.) Hensley, 97 of Madison passed away on July 29, 2022. L.A. was born on May 17, 1925 in Hall County, GA to L.A. and Ollie Weaver Hensley. L.A. was one of eleven children, all are deceased except a sister, Betty Johnson of Thampson. L.A. served in World WarII where hw was wounded in the Philippines.
In 1949, he married Agnes Few, his bride of 72 years. They had two children: Harold Kenneth Hensley(deceased) and Patsy Elaine Hensley Johnson. He leaves one granddaughter, Sarah Winter (David), and two great grandsons, Gabriel and Riley Chapman.
L.A. was known for his love of music. Over the years, he played with many bands. He was sometimes referred to as the “guitar man”. He could be found on Wednesdays at the Madison Health & Rehab accompanied by Beverly O’Dell and a host of volunteer singers. On Saturday, he played music with the “Flea Flickers” at the Madison Flea Market.
L.A. was a member of Madison Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School for many years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #376 for 74 years. He also was a member of the V.F. W. and the American Legion. L.A. owned and operated The Sanitary Barber Shop in Madison. You could always get a great haircut and listen to some good music.
The funeral was held on Monday, August 1 at 11 AM at A.E. Carter Funeral Home. Interment followed at the Madison City Cemetery.
