Kennon Howell Obituary

Charles Kennon Howell, 58, of Buckhead, who was born on January 20, 1961, went to his heavenly home on Saturday, October 12th.  He passed away at his beloved “Rock House” home. Kennon was the son of the late Herbert Hobson Howell and Gail Davis Howell Wade.  He is preceded in death by his parents and infant niece, Anna Coberly. Kennon is survived by his stepfather, Dr. John Wade; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Leigh Howell Coberly and David Coberly and Rebekah Howell Saltik and Ryan Saltik; his nieces, Elise Coberly, Claire Coberly, Ava Saltik, and nephew Sam Saltik.

Two of the the things Kennon loved most were his family and Buckhead (the real Buckhead, of course).  After receiving a degree in golf course management from ABAC, Kennon spent his life working outdoors where he was most happy.  When home in Buckhead, Kennon maintained the Buckhead cemetery and community properties.

Kennon’s boisterous personality brightened the life of many nurses at both the cancer center and the hospital where he received chemotherapy.  Kennon always made a cheerful and noisy entrance wherever he went. The nurses frequently commented they always enjoyed Kennon joking with them and adding some levity to their workplaces.  Kennon fought his fight with cancer very valiantly.

God pursued Kennon, and in answer to his Mama’s prayers, the family rejoiced on September 21, 2019 when Kennon was baptized on the banks of the Toccoa River in the mountains that he so loved.

The family extends special gratitude to the nurses who cared for Kennon and to his caregivers, David Coberly, Betsy Cheek, and John Wade.  The family also wants to thank Compassionate Care Hospice as they are aptly named. Many thanks also to the caring folks of Buckhead and Kennon’s  family for the love shown through prayers, visits, support and delicious food throughout Kennon’s extended illness.

The celebration of Kennon’s  life will be held at Buckhead Baptist Church on Friday, October 18th at 3:00.  Donations, if desired, may be sent to the City of Buckhead Cemetery Fund at P.O Box 38 Buckhead, GA designate that it is for the cemetery fund.
