Kathleen Walker Obituary

Kathleen (Kay) Dee McCreary Walker, 87, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 8, 2021 with her loving family at her side gently holding her hand.

Kay was born on November 30, 1933 in Manchester, Ohio, the youngest of 11 children of the late James McCreary and Pearl Henderson McCreary. She was educated at Manchester High, and attended Bethesda Hospital School of Nursing in Cincinnati for two years, before meeting the love of her life, the late Maxwell W. Walker in Forest Park, GA. Theirs was an epic love story: a chance meeting at church while visiting her sister Vi, a whirlwind courtship, followed by 64 years of marriage and true devotion to one another and the children they raised. Kay passed away 2 years and 1 month after Max, and she missed him deeply every day.

Music was the second great love of Kay’s life. Saxophone was her main instrument, and the easiest way to get a smile from her was to reminisce about her high school days, playing in a dance band. After retirement, she joined the Roswell New Horizons Band.

Kay was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church – attending First United in East Point for many years, and later Northbrook in Roswell. She delighted in raising controversial questions during Sunday School, especially when her beloved Max was teaching. After moving to Madison, she brought her spirit and bright smile to Church of the Advent, and her family is grateful for the embrace of this loving community.

Kay retired from Delta after serving as a Senior Market Analyst – she and Max enjoyed the generous travel benefits granted to retirees.

Kay is survived by her faithful dog Lucky, and by her beloved children Deborah Stanziano of Alpharetta, Pat Walker (Jeanne Dufort) of Madison, and Phillip Walker of Sandy Springs, by three grandchildren, Katie and Joseph Stanziano of Alpharetta and Johanna Dufort Hunt (Robbs) of Salem, NY, plus two great-grandsons, Henri Brown and Samuel Grainger Hunt of Salem NY. She is predeceased by 10 brothers and sisters.

Graveside services will be Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 2 pm at the Madison Memorial Cemetery, 420 W Central Avenue, Madison, GA. Memorial contributions in memory of Kay may be made to the Building and Endowment Fund of the Church of the Advent, 338 Academy St, Madison, GA 30650
