Joseph Benjamin (J.B.) Samples, November 24, 1931-May 1, 2022. He attended Georgia Military College in Milledgeville before transferring to Georgia Tech where he graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering.
He entered the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1955 and was deployed to Korea. He was discharged from the military as a 1st Lieutenant.
His profession as an engineer and land surveyor provided him with many jobs including one in Saudi Arabia for four years. In 1991 he moved to Warner Robins where he worked for Martin Marietta at the Air Force base and travelled for his work. From that position he became a Senior Engineer with the Houston County Public Works. In 2010 he became a contractor with the county until his retirement in 2015.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Warner Robins where he held several different positions in the church. He was a Sunday School teacher for many years.
Mr. Samples was residing in an assisted living home in Covington at the time of his death after moving from Warner Robins in 2016 to be near family.
Mr. Sample was preceded in death by his father and step mother, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Samples and mother and step father, Mr. and Mrs. Joe S. Williams, Sr. Also his deceased siblings were Frank (Velma) Smith, Marvin (Gladys) Armistead and son-in-law, Neil Stith.
Mr. Samples is survived by his son, Olin Samples of Acworth, daughter, Cheryl Stith and grandson, Nathan Stith of Douglasville. He also leaves a brother, Joe Williams, Jr and sister and her husband Marinell and Emory Thompson as well as several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 5 at 11 AM at the Madison City Cemetery.
