John Flournoy Nunn, age 93, of Bostwick, Georgia, passed away at his home of 70 years, surrounded by his immediate family. He loved his God, his church, his family, his friends, his county and country.
He was born on January 5, 1930 at his family home place on Wellington Street in Bostwick, as the third child of six of his late parents, Columbus Flournoy Nunn and Ethel Montgomery Nunn.
John joined the Navy as a patriotic young 17 year old, after graduating from Bostwick High School. Shortly thereafter, he returned home from the armed services to begin a career as a fourth generation farmer. He initiated the use of Dixie King cotton seed variety and served as a spokesperson for the seed company. Another innovation used by Nunn was bringing the first single cotton row picker to Bostwick in the 1960's. Due to the success and improvements of the farm, he began a dairy, and was planting over 800 acres of cotton, soybeans, corn, and wheat.
Civically, John served as a county commissioner for 27 years representing the Bostwick area. Additionally, he drove a public school bus for over 30 years helping to transport children all over the county and beyond. For years John was a member of the Wellington Masonic Lodge and helped with the annual July 4th barbeque fundraiser. He has been a faithful member of the Bostwick United Methodist Church for more than 60 years serving as the Sunday School superintendent, teacher and choir member.
