John Thomas Brockman Jr., 80, of Rutledge, Georgia, died peacefully in his home on January 20, 2025.
He was born in Atlanta on April 9, 1944 to Dorothy Emoline Wofford and John T. Brockman Sr. He graduated from Hoke Smith High School and married the love of his life, Nellie Sharon Smith, on June 9, 1961. Together, they shared 63 beautiful years of marriage.
John enjoyed a career selling Cadillacs and home security systems and played drums professionally for 30 years. Known as “Johnny B.,” he performed with various rock n’ roll bands and for his church, Christian Fellowship in Conyers. His many passions included Harley Davidson motorcycles, hot air balloons, coin collecting, and his love for Reese’s and chocolate ice cream.
He is survived by his wife, Nellie S. Brockman; his children, Dorothy (Dollie) Mitchell and John (Tommy) Brockman III; his grandchildren Michael Ray Mitchell and Katherine S. Gray; and his great-grandchildren, Kaiden Heath Gray and Kieran Madison Gray.
John will be remembered for his wisdom, sharp sense of humor, gift for storytelling, and eagerness to help those he loved. His warmth and laughter will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in John’s honor.
