Mr. James Stanley, Jr. of Covington died on December 22, 2012. He was the son of the late James Stanley, Sr. and Willene Willis Stanley. He was born on April 11, 1925 in Macon. After high school he joined the U.S. Army. He served in the specialized troop known as the Ghost Army during WWII, a group that remained classified until the 1990’s. After his military service, Mr. Stanley obtained a degree from Emory University. He was married to Beatrice Brewer in March of 1949. He then spent his career with the U.S. Rubber company. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church and the Sigma Nu Fraternity. He was a member of the VFW and USO as well as the WWII museum.
Mr. Stanley is survived by his wife, Beatrice Brewer Stanley and their children, Janice S. Blanchard (William) of Marietta, Gail S. Swift (Jim) of Dublin and Jim Stanley (Lillian) of Jonesboro. He is also survived by five grandchildren, three great grandchildren and a sister, Helen Stanley.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 from 1:00 until 2:00pm at A.E. Carter Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held in the chapel at 2:00pm. Interment will follow at the Bethany Cemetery.
