James Porter, Sr Obituary

 

James Daniel “Dan” Porter of Buckhead, passed away at his home April 11, 2021.  Dan was born July 12, 1953 to the late Bill and Nell Porter.  He had three sisters, Julia Gay Sabbadino (Joe), Sarah Nell Craig (Steve) and Janice Phillipi (Chuck).

Dan was a member of the 1971 graduating class of Morgan County High School.  He began farming with his dad from the time he could walk and continued to do so until his death.  His farming endeavors included row crops, dairy, swine and poultry.  Dan also enjoyed tinkering with antique tractors and trucks.  He loved cooking up his famous Brunswick stew in the cast iron pot.  He was known to his family and friends as Dan, Daddy, Papa Dan and Uncle Dan.

Dan Porter is survived by his wife, Sally and their children, Sadie Carver & Richard, Jim Porter & Kathy and Scott Porter & Holly.  His grandchildren are Michaelah Porter, James Porter, Jake Carver, Jonathan Voyles, Katie Porter, Madeline Porter, Mary Carver, Tinsley Porter and William Porter.  He was preceded in death by his parents, numerous aunts and uncles as well as his nephew, Brandon Craig.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 14 from 6-8 PM at A.E. Carter Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be on Thursday, April 15 at 11 AM at Bethany Baptist Church.  Interment will be at the Bethany Cemetery.
