James Oscar Buice, Jr.

Mr. James Oscar Buice, Jr., lovingly known as Junior to family, age 92 of Buckhead, passed away at home on Saturday, July 29, 2023.  He was born on November 27, 1930, in Atlanta, Georgia, to the late Rev. James Oscar Buice, Sr. and Flora Patterson Buice. 

He believed in faith and family and leaves behind his wife, Mae Holloway Buice, of 66 years; two daughters Gayle Buice Holmes and husband Jimmy, and Jill Buice Luciani and husband Mark.  He was Papa to four grandchildren, Trae Holmes and wife Amber; Jesse Arwood and wife Roxana; James Arwood and wife Leah; and Susanne Bell and husband Eric; six great-grandchildren, Olivia Taylor, Anna Bell, Bailey Dillard, Ariel Holmes, Dalton Arwood and Emily Bell.  

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, JoAnn Prater.

He was a faithful Christian and a 30-year member of Sugar Creek Baptist Church in Madison.  He held many positions: chairman of the building committee and responsible for the building of a new fellowship building.

He was employed by Westinghouse Electric Corporation for 43 years and was appointed President of IBEW Local Union 2134 in Atlanta.

James loved working in his yard.  Whether it was flowers or vegetables, his gardens produced beautifully every year.  You could often see him digging and replanting or up in tree trimming limbs blocking the view of their lovely lakeside home.  But I think he secretly loved cutting his lawns riding on his John Deere lawn mower. 

He was an avid golfer and served as a Marshall at Hard Labor Creek State Park.

A visitation of family and friends will be held on Thursday, August 3, 2023, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at A. E. Carter Funeral Home in Madison. Funeral service will be held Friday, August 4, 2023, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of A.E. Carter Funeral Home in. Interment will follow at Swords Community Cemetery in Buckhead.
