Howard Alexander Thompson of Madison, passed away on January 8, 2025 following a brief illness. He was born February 4, 1942 to Irby Thompson and Velma Holtzclaw Thompson. Howard served in the United States Army and later joined the family business, Thompson’s Jewelers. He was married to Dale Murray and was a member of Beacon Heights Baptist Church. Howard was active in the Masonic Lodge. He recently received his 50 year apron. He belonged to the San Marino Lodge in Greensboro. He was also active in the Eastern Star. Howard enjoyed tinkering and projects around his home. He was a devoted UGA football fan but his joy was his family. He especially enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren.
Howard Thompson is survived by his wife, Dale and children, Brian Thompson (Christina), Amanda Thompson Mealor (Derrick), Dawn Hutton, Jody Hutton and Joey Hutton (Teanna). He leaves grandchildren, Victoria Squires, Valeria Lackey, Shawn Chase Thompson, Hope Mealor, Alexander Mealor, Taylor Smith, Miriah Cain-Epps, Chris Epps, Tyra Hutton, Jaela Hutton, and Caleb Hutton. Mr. Thompson also leaves a sister, Claudia Giddens and a step sister-in-law, Barbara Cadle. He was preceded in death by a son, Shawn Thompson, a grandson, Joseph Cole-Epps and a brother, Jimmy Thompson. He was also preceded by his parents and his step-mother, Sarah Thompson.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 14 at A.E. Carter Funeral Home from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM. The funeral service will be held in the chapel at 1:00 PM. Graveside services will follow at the Madison City Cemetery.
