Howard Self

Howard Self, 73 of Madison, died on June 27, 2011 at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle. Mr. Self was born on December 2, 1937 in Greensboro to William Ezra Self and Annie Herndon Self. He was a graduate of Greene County High School. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, having served as a drill sergeant. Mr. Self was married to Shirley Massey on July 28, 1961. He was retired from Wewllington Mills where he worked in maintenance. Mr. Self loved to work in his yard and garden. He will be remembered for sharing the tomatoes and peppers from his garden.

 

Mr. Self is survived by his wife, Shirley and children, Kaye Beal (Robert), Kenneth Beal (Theresa), Sandra Self and Marilyn Self. Mr. Self also leaves twelve grandchildren. He has three brothers, Talmadge Self, Glenn Self and Jimmy Self. He was preceded in death by three sisters and a grandchild, Sezshena Beal.

 

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6 until 9 pm at A.E. Carter Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Friday, July 1, 2011 at 2 pm in the chapel. Interment will follow at the Madison City Cemetery.
