Helen Nunnally, Devoted Servant of Christ and Cherished Matriarch, Passes Away at 87
Helen Nunnally, a woman whose life radiated faith, love, and joyful service, entered the presence of her Savior on May 11, 2025 at the age of 87. Known for her deep love of Jesus, her tireless devotion to others, her infectious giggle, and her welcoming spirit, Helen left a legacy that will continue to inspire generations.
Family was Helen’s greatest earthly joy. She built a beautiful home with the love of her life for 65 years, Richard Corry Nunnally, in Madison where they spent countless hours working in the yard. She spoke often and with great pride about her children. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest delight. She was always their biggest cheerleader watching countless ball games from the bleachers, applauding through school chorus concerts, and never missing the chance to greet them after school with the perfect snack and an even better hug. Her home was a sanctuary of warmth and acceptance, where laughter, prayer, a good card game, a great meal, and love were always in abundance.
Helen faithfully served as the CEO of Beacon Heights Baptist Church. Side by side with her husband, Richard Corry Nunnally, she ministered to church members with grace, wisdom, and genuine compassion. Her life was her ministry, and she served not for recognition, but out of a deep desire to reflect Christ’s love.
A proud retiree of SunTrust Bank, where she worked for 38 years, Helen brought the same warmth and dependability to her professional life as she did to her home and church. She had a gift for making everyone feel seen, valued, and welcomed—whether behind a desk, at a church pew, or in her cozy kitchen.
Helen is survived by her children, Vickie (Royce) McClain and Ritchie (Sandy) Nunnally; her grandchildren, Stephen (Carrie) McClain, Chad (Stacey) McClain, Blaine Nunnally, and Brooklynn Nunnally; her great-grandchildren, Dawson McClain, Reagan McClain, Luke McClain, and Reese McClain; and her beloved sister Martha Pelot, as well as other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Corry Nunnally.
A celebration of Helen’s life will be held on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at 2:00pm at Beacon Heights Baptist Church, with visitation beginning at 1:00. Family invites donations to be made to Beacon Heights Church.
Helen Nunnally lived a life poured out in love—for her Lord, her family, her church, and her community. To know her was to be welcomed, prayed for, and deeply loved. She will be dearly missed and joyfully remembered.
