Gloria Palmen Laseter

November 1, 1924 – November 29, 2020

A wife of noble character, who can find?  She is far more precious than rubies. (Proverbs 31:10)  She is clothed with strength and dignity, she can laugh at the days to come. 
When she speaks, her words are wise and kindness is the rule of everything she says. (Proverbs 31:26) These scriptures aptly describe the daughter, sister, Mama, Mama-in-law, Grandma, Great Grandma, Aunt, neighbor, friend, and beloved person that Gloria Laseter was.

Cecilia Gloria Audrey Palmen Laseter went to be with Jesus on Sunday, November 29, 2020 after being with us for 96 years.  Born on November 1, 1924 in West St. Paul, Minnesota, Gloria was the daughter of Ted and Anna Palmen.  Her husband can trust in her and he lacks nothing of value. (Proverbs 31:11)  That was the case when Gloria was working as waitress in Minnesota and a handsome young Army man strolled in.  After many letters, phone calls and a telegram proposing marriage, Gloria boarded a train to Covington, Georgia and on May 10, 1944, Joe and Gloria were married. They were married until his death in April, 2006.  She still referred to him as her sweetheart.  Joe and Gloria had five children: Ted, Mike, Jimmy, Suzie and Jeanie.  After her children were older, Gloria worked as a seamstress at The Shirt Factory, in the office at Schnadig Furniture Plant and then as a bookkeeper at Godfrey Feed and Seed until she retired in 1985.

Gloria was a member of Madison Baptist Church for many, many years.  She loved going to Sunday School and Church and was always dressed to the nines with one of her many hats.  Gloria was the hat lady.  She was also a member of The Artists Guild and The Red Hat Ladies Society.

Gloria had many hobbies over the years, including painting, sewing, quilting, gardening, reading, cooking, eating, traveling, being with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and just being with people.  Gloria also enjoyed many pets over the years, with the most recent cats: Mama Kitty and BB.  Even with the limitations of age, Gloria found joy in a good book, delight in a scrumptious meal especially with a little dessert, the warmth of the sun on her face, the sound of children laughing, and the contentment of being surrounded by her family.  Her children arise and call her blessed. (Proverbs 31:28)  Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. (Proverbs 31:30)  Gloria loved life, but she was also ready to go to her Heavenly Home when the time came.

We all loved her very much.  She will be missed.  Rest in Peace, Sweet Gloria, until we are together again.

In addition to her parents and husband, Gloria was preceded in death by one sister, Florence, one brother, Bernard and one grandson, Matt.  Survivors include sons, Ted (Christi) Laseter of Kennesaw, Mike (Melanie) Laseter of Madison, Jimmy (Ad) Laseter of Madison, daughters, Suzie (David) Moore of Madison and Jeanie Veal of Seattle, Washington, one sister, Beverly Bowen of River Falls, Wisconsin, nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren with one on the way.
