Gertrude Arwood Pugh, 92 of Madison, passed away on April 9, 2026. Mrs. Pugh was a lifelong citizen of Morgan County. She was born in Godfrey on March 27, 1934 to Leonard and Vinnie Morris Arwood. She would later marry Mr. J.C. Pugh. Mrs. Pugh worked as a seamstress for Morgan Sportswear and later Schnadig International Furniture. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Mrs. Pugh set an example for her family of always being prepared and on time. She was always tidy and paid attention to details.
Gertrude Pugh was preceded in death by her parents as well as her husband, J.C. Pugh, Sr. and a son, Ronnie Pugh. She is survived by her daughters, Patricia Bessho and Reba Whitaker (Johnny) and a son, Joseph Pugh, Jr. Her grandchildren are Nicholas Bessho (Layne), Lindsey Claborn (Denny), Brittany Bass (Aaron) and Renee Huckaby. Her great grandchildren are Kyle Bessho, Bryce Bessho, Avery Bessho, Elaine Huckaby, Owen Claborn and Bobby Bass.
The family will receive friends on Monday, April 13, 2026 from 6-8 PM at A.E. Carter Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 14 at 11 AM in the chapel. Interment will follow at the Almand Cemetery in Apalachee.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Covenant Park Church 1111 Mary Magnan Blvd Madison, GA 30650.
