Gaynell Smith, 97, passed away on December 17, 2025. Mrs. Smith was the daughter of Charlie Arthur and Mary Francis Rogers Smith. She was born January 18, 1928 in Thomaston, GA and later married Mr. P.D. Smith. Together, they built a life in College Park running an auto repair shop and raising their three girls. She often helped P.D. in the shop and was frequently found driving a wrecker. After P.D.'s death, Gaynell went to work at Marriott Hotels in maintenance engineering. She later moved to Fayetteville, where she built her own home. Over the years she also held a cosmetology license, baked wedding cakes, and worked at a nursing home. Mrs. Smith moved to Madison, Georgia in 2016.
She was known to send you articles that she found or have recommendations based on something she read. She was always up for an adventure, a margarita, or both and loved her family dearly.
Gaynell Smith is survived by two daughters, Margie Kellett & John Fiely and Joanne Ring & Sam. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Wilmoth. Mrs. Smith’s grandchildren are Chantal Kellett Fowler (Mitchell), Roy Kellett (Amy), Emily Grund, Amber Ring O’Connell (Tim), and Steven Ring (Jessica). Her great grandchildren are Paige Fowler, Tyler Grund, Finn O’Connell, and Perry, Dakota, and Charlotte Ring. Additional family includes Sharon Wilmoth (Richard, deceased), Amanda Lang, Carolyn Wilmoth, and Kenneth Wilmoth along with their families.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 19, 2025 at 3 PM at the College Park Cemetery.
