Gary Michael Gartland

Gary Michael Gartland, 74, most recently of Buckhead, GA, passed away at home after a long illness, on December 18, 2024. He was born on August 21, 1950, in Cambridge, MA to the late John Gartland and Eileen Slattery Gartland.

Gary was a loving husband to his wife, Sondra Madison, and a proud father to Terrence Gartland and Kristyn Ferrelli. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Bailey Shields, Vanessa Ferrelli, and Evelyn Ferrelli, as well as his sister, Paula Gartland.  He was preceded in death by siblings, Lea Gartland and David Gartland.

Gary was dedicated to helping young people, launching his professional life as a teacher, then leading the Boys & Girls Clubs of Middlesex County, anchored in Somerville, MA, his hometown. Gary will be best remembered for his compassion, his humor and athleticism. He rarely met a stranger that didn’t become a friend.  

A Celebration of Life will be held at the family residence on January 11, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. A Tribute to Gary and a Celebration of Life will take place in the Greater Boston Area in the spring of 2025 (More information will be provided when the date is confirmed).

Gary’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His love for humanity, especially those who needed a kind word, a hand up, or a friend, will be an inspiration. He was much loved and will be deeply missed.
