Eula Keener Obituary

It is with deep sadness and Heavenly assurance that we announce the home-going of our beloved mother and grandmother, Eula Mae Shook Keener, who passed away on June 29, 2024, at the age of 88 in Chatham, Illinois.

Eula was born to C. Elza and Elsie Shook on December 12, 1935, in Hoisington, Kansas, where she was raised. After graduating from Hoisington High School, she moved to St. Louis, Missouri, to attend Midwest Bible and Missionary Institute.  It was there she met her husband, David Glenn Keener, who preceded her in death in 2014, after 57½ years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her parents and older sister, Etta Bell Pyle.

After attending Midwest, she attended nursing school at Jewish Hospital and graduated in 1957.  She was a registered nurse, serving as an R.N. in the hospital setting, as a private duty nurse, and then as a Christian camp nurse and an organizational nurse.

She was a devoted mother to her five children: David (Jana) Keener of Kansas City, Missouri; Stephen (Diana) Keener of Billings, Montana; Deborah Van Noord of York, Pennsylvania; Joel (Beth) Keener of Conway, South Carolina; and Miriam (Daniel) Stowell of Loami, Illinois.  She also had thirteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.

Eula was a pastor’s wife in Divernon, Illinois; Arena, Wisconsin; and Dacoma, Oklahoma. David and Eula then became full-time missionaries, serving in camp ministry in Green Forest, Arkansas; and church planting in Fremont, Nebraska. They moved to Madison, Georgia, in 1986 to serve with Source of Light Ministries. David served as Public Relations Director, and Eula was the secretary to the Director for many years. Later in her ministry, Eula began working in the Accounting Department, where she served until January 1, 2024. She had a servant’s heart and wanted to continue serving as long as God allowed.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 8, 2024, at A.E. Carter Funeral Home, in Madison, Georgia. Interment will be with her husband David at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville, Georgia. Memorial donations can be made to Source of Light Ministries, 1011 Mission Road, Madison, Georgia 30650.
