Edith Bien Thomas, 95, entered into the kingdom of Heaven on October 15, 2023. She was born in Ruxton Maryland to Frederick W. and Bessie Leigh Bien. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Hadley Thomas, Jr, her daughter, Olevia Leigh Wahl and brother, Thomas Leigh Bien. Mrs. Thomas will be greatly missed by her surviving son, Harry Hadley Thomas, III, her nephew Thomas Leigh Bien, Jr (Connie) and niece Rebecca Bien Sullivan (Bill). She is also survived by her great nephews Thomas Leigh Bien III and Nicholas Leigh Sullivan; great nieces Tara Elyn Sullivan Giles and Julia Elliott Bien; and seven great nieces and nephews, and her beloved cat, Lovie.
Edith graduated from Friends School in Baltimore; Randolph Macon Womens College with a bachelor’s degree, and Emory University with a Master of Arts degree in Education. She taught at Stratford College and was a teacher and librarian for Dekalb County school for 29 years before retiring. She and her late husband were member of Faith Presbyterian Church, Watkinsville, GA. Edith was a teacher and mentor, thoughtful, caring giving, kind and a loving Christian lady.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the Humane Society of Morgan County. In her memory, please end your prayers as she did, “Lord please make us mindful of the needs of others.”
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 21 at 1 PM in the chapel of A.E. Carter Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Madison City Cemetery.
