Dottie Saffold Obituary

Dottie Marie Saffold, 80 of Buckhead, Georgia passed away January 3, 2025.

Dottie was born in Buckhead on January 22, 1944 to SJ Saffold Sr. and Doris Jones Saffold.

Her life was a testament of strength, determination, and sheer will. At birth, physicians feared Dottie would not live to her teens, but she surpassed all expectations and thrived.

She was limited by the educational opportunities available to special needs children at that time. Despite these challenges, Dottie was extremely intelligent. Had she had been born 20 years later she would have been a force to reckon with.

Dottie attended public school for a brief time at Morgan County.

As an adult she attended the Walton-Morgan Training Center for special education in Good Hope where she held many jobs including preparing newspapers for distribution for The Walton County Tribune and upholstery.

Dottie was a person who embraced life with boundless enthusiasm, spreading happiness wherever she went with a contagious smile and a heart full of kindness.

She loved going to church, visiting the Senior Center, and assisting her Mother with hosting. Her hobbies included, scrapbooking, crafting, and latch hook.

In 2017, she was recognized as the oldest living person in the United States with Down Syndrome. She continued to hold this title until her passing.

Dottie was predeceased by her parents and brother Tony M. Saffold.

She is survived by brothers SJ Saffold Jr. and Dot and A.T. Saffold and Jeanette.

Dottie is also survived by nieces and nephews SJ Saffold III and Cheryl, William Saffold and Cathy, Grace Saffold Ivie and Brian, Trina Saffold, Sandi Saffold, and Brian Saffold and Tiffany.

Great nephews and nieces: Nate Saffold, Sean Saffold, Justin Saffold, Kristin, Lillie Grace, and Kathryn, Stacey Campbell, Michelle Mealer, John, Abigail, Brynlee, and Gavin, and Amber West, Kevin, and Judson.

A celebration of life service is planned for Sunday January 19th at 3:00 pm at Buckhead Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis Garner officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 2:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Buckhead Baptist Church or to the resident’s activity fund at Morgan Health and Rehabilitation.
