Dora Moss Obituary

Mrs. Dora Sealy Moss, 85, of Madison, peacefully passed away on June 25, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on March 19, 1941, in Jefferson, Georgia, Dora was the beloved daughter of Monroe and Rose Shaw Sealy. On July 2, 1960, she married the love of her life, George Columbus Moss, and together they built a home and raised their family in Morgan County, creating a lifetime of cherished memories.

Dora retired from Wellington Puritan Mills after many years of dedicated work. She found joy in life's simple pleasures—casting a fishing line, sewing for those she loved, watching her chickens, and spending quiet evenings watching “Murder, She Wrote”  and “Matlock”. She shared a special bond with her faithful dog, Brutus, who was always close by and always along for a ride in the Montero.

More than anything, Dora loved her family. She was known simply and lovingly as "Mama," "Grandma," and "Grandma Moss," titles she treasured above all others. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life, and she delighted in every visit, every hug, and every moment spent together.

Her home was a place of comfort and welcome. The kitchen was the heart of it all, where fresh biscuits, banana pudding, and her special egg-and-cheese omelets were made with love, and the snack cabinet was always stocked for her grandbabies. No one ever left her home hungry, and everyone left knowing they were deeply loved.

Dora will be remembered for her kind heart, unwavering devotion to her family, and the warmth she brought into every life she touched. Her love and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.

Mrs. Dora Moss is survived by her children, Debora Jane and Sam Edward Florence, Jr, Samuel Doyle and Katherine Moss and Rita Kay and Richard Hawkins, Sr.  Her grandchildren are:  Amanda Jane Florence and Brian Michael Harper, John Adam and Kayln Lynn Florence, Shelby Moss and Christopher Landrum, Nicholas and Samantha Moss, Lucas Haley, Michael Haley, Samantha Moss, Kylea Cook, Richard and Brooke Hawkins, Jr., Gregory and Courtney Hawkins and Miranda and Christopher Brown.  Her great-grandchildren are Nathaniel Robert, Brock Chandler, Chase Hunter, Ryleigh Grace, Casey Lee, Rowan Jayne, Madelyn, Finley, Charlotte, Presley, Camellia, Elizabeth, Memphis, Bradley, Liam, Waylon, Walker, Jaxson and Connor.  Mrs. Moss was preceded in death by her husband, George Columbus Moss, son, John Columbus Moss and a sister, Leona Lewis.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 28 from 2-3PM at A.E. Carter Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be held at 3PM in the chapel.  Interment will follow at Madison City Cemetery.
