Coleman “Coley'' Bassett Lovejoy, Jr, 75 of Madison, GA passed away July 8, 2023. He was the son of the late Coleman B. Lovejoy, Sr. and Margaret Sams Lovejoy. Coley was born August 22, 1947 in Macon, GA. He graduated from Willingham High School and attended Mercer University. Coley served his country in the Army National Guard. He was a medic in the 48th Infantry Brigade out of Macon, GA. He was married to Kay Thomas Lovejoy. Together they raised their children in Gray, GA. It was there that Coley operated his own construction company. He later served as Director for the Jones County Roads and Bridges Department. Upon retiring from Jones County, Coley came to serve as Director for Morgan County Roads and Bridges. He was a member of Grace Fellowship of Madison. He loved to hunt and fish and operate equipment. He enjoyed racing as a dirt track driver. Coley loved his family and the time spent together.
Coley Lovejoy is survived by his wife, Kay and their two children, Margie Lovejoy and Coleman B. “Tre” Lovejoy, III (Amanda). His grandchildren are Leslie Craft (Bill), Lauren Lovejoy, Madison Lovejoy, Luke Lovejoy and Jaxon Lovejoy. His great grandson is Coleman “Cole'' Craft. He also leaves two sisters, Elaine Cox (Bobby) and Nita Cobb (James). He was preceded in death by a sister, Lenora Preston.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 15 at 10 AM at Grace Fellowship of Madison, GA.
The family asks that memorials be made to Abbey Hospice 215 Azalea Court Social Circle, GA 30025. The family also wishes to extend sincere thanks to Coley’s nurses, Sherrill, Katrina and Carmen.
