Chip Neugebauer Obituary

Philip Donald Neugebauer, Jr. (Chip) – Nov. 21, 1956 – Dec. 29th – 2021

Chip Neugebauer passed away in his home in Madison on Dec. 29th of natural causes. He is survived by his son Shane, daughter Shanna, granddaughter Harper, and brothers Mark and Dunn.

Chip was born in D.C., but grew up in Madison, where he attended Morgan County High School. There, he was an active journalist and a starting member of the varsity baseball team. He later attended Middle Georgia College before transferring to the University of Georgia, where he majored in journalism.

After college, he worked primarily in newspapers as a columnist – he penned “Chip Shots” for the Madisonian while a high school student – and later wrote free-lance columns for papers in Putnam County and surrounding areas. He also worked in advertising sales and as a disc jockey – he got his beginnings on the radio while a teenager in Madison working for WYTH radio.

He was working in radio and radio advertising when he passed (WMOQ in Monroe), where he was a popular broadcaster and co-disc jockeyed a popular sports morning show.

Chip should be remembered for his love for his kids, his creativity, and his sense of humor. Regardless of what was going on around him, he had a knack for seeing things differently – in both a creative and positive light – and because of this proved an inspiration to those around him.

A service for Chip is in the planning stages. More than likely there will be a celebration of life at Heritage Park in March.  Please stay tuned to this paper for further details.
