Carolyn (Johnson) Jones

Carolyn “Cookie” Johnson Jones, 66 of Rutledge, passed away on March 31, 2023. Cookie was born March 27, 1957 in Augusta to Hugh and Myrtle Anderson Johnson. She grew up in North Augusta, South Carolina. She earned a Bachelor’s degree from Charleston Southern University. She loved music and she loved to sing. While at Charleston Southern, she traveled with the group The Tellers to sing in different churches all over South Carolina. Cookie then went on to earn her Master’s degree at Southwestern Seminary in Texas. While at Southwestern, she met Wayne Jones, and they were married in January 1983. They spent much of their married lives pastoring churches in South Carolina and Georgia. Cookie was also an elementary school teacher for many years, and loved her students and fellow teachers. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and loved spending time with her family. She was a faithful follower of Christ, and will be especially remembered for her kindness, generosity, and fun-loving sense of humor.

Cookie is survived by her husband, Rev. Wayne Jones and three children, Alan, Jonathan and Jessica. Her grandchildren are Ryder, Roslyn, Gavin, Adelyn, Wesley, Emory, Norah and Ellie. She is also survived by her siblings, David Johnson, Dan Johnson, and Cheryl Kilpatrick.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 4 from 5-7 pm at A.E. Carter Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 5 at 4 pm at Centennial Baptist Church. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
