Butch Lowe

Horace Stewart “Butch” Lowe, Jr, 72 of Rutledge, passed away on May 7, 2026.  Mr. Lowe was born in Atlanta on December 7, 1953 to Horace S. Lowe, Sr and Loette Clack Lowe.  Butch was retired from Local 72 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union.  Butch was married to Jean F. Lowe.  He spent his life in Dekalb County before moving to Rutledge.  Butch was a dedicated employee, always sure his work was completed on time and done well.  He also loved anything with a motor.  He spent over 50 years drag racing.  In that time, he collected many championships and made life-long friends.  Butch loved his family and while he didn’t always show it, he loved taking care of others.

Butch Lowe is survived by his wife, Jean and children, Corey Lowe, Kyle Abbott and bonus daughter, Cheryl Smith.  He also leaves two brothers, Barry and Brian Lowe and a sister, Sarita Green.  Butch was grandfather to eight and great-grandfather to five.  He also leaves numerous family and  friends.

The family will receive friends on Monday, May 11 from Noon until 2 PM at A.E. Carter Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be held at 2 PM in the chapel.  Interment will follow at the Rutledge City Cemetery.
