Arthur "Smiley" Howard

Arthur Este Howard was born June 11, 1957 in Thomson, GA.  He was the son of the late Clifford Warren Sr. and Catherine Guest Howard.  Everyone knew him as “Smiley” since he always had a smile on his face.

During his life, Smiley lived in Oglethorpe County and was a 1975 graduate of Oglethorpe High School.  For most of his life, he worked as a delivery driver and accounts manager for Coca-Cola.  On his route, he met his wife of 31 years, Gail.  After they married, they moved to Madison.  Smiley and Gail enjoyed spending time together.  They liked to eat out, watch tv, talk and spend time with family.  Smiley became a wonderful dad to Andy, when he married Gail.  He went to all of his baseball games and school functions.  Even as Andy got older, Smiley adored him and helped remodel a house, build fences and spend time at Andy’s farm.  He also loved his grand dogs, Hershey and Dixie.

Smiley Howard leaves his wife Gail Lord Howard, son, Andy Nash (Mandi), brother, Warren Howard, sister Cathy Donohoe (Paddy), sister Karen Patman (Frank) and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Monday, February 17 from 1-2 PM at A.E. Carter Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be held at 2 PM in the chapel.  Interment will follow at the Bostwick City Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in Smiley’s memory to Bethany Baptist Church or New Hope Baptist Church, both of Madison.
