Alan Taylor

Alan Taylor, 85, of Madison, Georgia, passed away on June 18, 2026, at home.

Alan was born August 2, 1940, in Gateshead, England, the son of Edith Fentiman and Alfred Taylor. He grew up in Gateshead and emigrated to the United States in 1981, living in Indiana and Maryland before settling in Georgia in 1986.

Alan worked as a Chartered Accountant which is what brought him to America. He enjoyed racket sports throughout his life, from tennis and racketball to pickleball, where he often competed - and delighted in winning - against players younger than himself.

He is survived by his spouse, Lynette Taylor; his children, Simon Taylor and Kirsten (& Peter) Syrett; his stepson, Ashley (& Amanda) Smith; his grandchildren, Claire Syrett, Quinn Syrett, Kay Taylor-Ng, Tyler Smith, and Grant Smith; his sister, Barbara (& Dave) Lewis; and many other cherished family members and friends.

Alan was preceded in death by his mother and father; and by his brother, Stan Taylor; and his previous wife, Geraldine Taylor.

Those who knew Alan will remember him for his gentle nature and his love of gardening. He shared his passion for travel with Lynette, going to places such as Slovenia, Austria, Croatia, Portugal, Spain, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Italy, Germany, France, Canada, Scotland, Wales, Ireland and, of course, annual visits to his home country, England. They cruised to many other countries also.

Following a private graveside service, a wake will be held Monday, June 22nd, at Lynette and Alan’s home, 1368 Meadowcreek Drive in Madison. Friends and neighbors are welcome to drop by between 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. for light refreshments and reflections.

The family extends its gratitude to Kenneth Davis, Lynette’s brother, who aided in Alan’s ability to remain at home during his final days. Also to hospice staff, Ashley and Meilisha, as well as all of the family and friends who provided support and compassion during this time.
