Addie Edwards Norton, 100 of Madison, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2023. She was at her home, surrounded by her daughters. Mrs. Norton was born February 12, 1923 in Atlanta to Frank and Eva Edwards. She was a graduate of Girl’s High School in Atlanta. She met Richard A. Norton at the Atlanta Ordinance Depot during WWII. They married on January 20, 1945 at Kirkwood Baptist Church in Atlanta before he shipped to Italy in March.
Mrs. Norton was a dedicated member of Madison Baptist Church having served in many capacities. These included Superintendent of the Primary Department, Bible School worker, church secretary and church clerk. She was also active in the Women’s Missionary Union and the Joy Homemakers Sunday School Class for many years.
Mrs. Norton was retired from the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service. She was best known as an ace tennis player, having competed in both ALTA and USTA into her 80’s. She also enjoyed traveling, reading and gardening.
Addie Norton was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Eva Edwards and the love of her life, Richard Norton. She is survived by her daughters: Judy Reid (Robert), Joan Johnson (Charles) and Nancy Parker (Terry)and grandchildren: Richard Reid, Nicole Busby, Kelly Chatfield, Karen Osterhoudt, Zack Parker, Erin Parker, Travis Reid and 11 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at A.E. Carter Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 13 at 1:00 PM at Madison Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Madison Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be: Richard Reid, Zackary Parker, Josh Osterhoudt, Chad Chatfield, Anthony Parise, Mark Busby, Travis Reid and Alden Reid.
