On the afternoon of the 29th of April, 2017 , Lawrence Candler Cross was called home, and slipped his Earthly bonds. His rest came easily, as he was being attended by loved ones. Lawrence was born at his family home, in Godfrey, GA. on Oct. 29, 1938 to E.C. and Laverne L. Cross. His young life was spent in Griffin, GA. where his father worked at the University of Georgia Experiment Station. In 1957, he married Carol A. Cross and they settled in Madison, where they had one daughter, Carey. He served in the GA. Department of Corrections, Diagnostic and Classification Center in Jackson until his retirement. Afterward, he worked as the head of security for the Georgia Museum of Art, at The University of Georgia. Lawrence spoke fondly of his coworkers, and would often refer to them as his second family. He ended his career to care for his late wife, Carol, and her mother, Mrs. Ethel Atkinson. In that, he remained devoted until their passings. In his free time, Lawrence enjoyed a good cup of coffee, reading, films, and the occasional Varsity Chili Dog. Lawrence will be fondly remembered by all who knew him as a loving and patient father, grandfather, great grandfather, coworker, and mentor. Now, with his Earthly duties completed, Lawrence has been reunited with his heavenly family. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Carey Jones, and son-in-law, Keith Jones, of Madison. His grandsons, Christopher Jones and Ricky Jones, granddaughter-in-law, Lori Jones, and great grandchildren, Chloe and Carson Jones. He also leaves behind an extended network of friends and family, all of whom he loved dearly, and spoke of often. A memorial service for Lawrence will be held Sunday, May 7th, at Redeemer Church, 1890 Bethany Rd, in Madison GA, at 3 o'clock in the afternoon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory, to Redeemer Church of Madison.

Carey and family. So sorry to learn of the passing of your dad, our friend, Mr. Cross. We have enjoyed knowing him for so many years. It is hard to realize that both he and your mother are gone. Many fond memories of them. We are keeping you and your family in our prayers that God will give you strength and peace at this sad time.
