William Dale Odom, 66, of Madison, GA died September 28, 2018, after an extended illness.
William “Bill” Odom was born January 16, 1952, in Williamston, SC. He is the son of the late William Straub and Ethel Alice Odom (maiden Lindsey). He is survived by his wife, Becky, four daughters: Lisa and Vince Earnesty of Connellsville, PA, Rebecca Joy and Eric Pursley of Mt. Juliet, TN, Amy and Chris Greene of Dahlonega, GA and Jennifer Odom of Madison, GA. He also leaves behind four grandchildren: Sarah, Lindsey, Will and Ella, as well as, two brothers Jimmy Odom and Troy Odom. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Ann Odom, and nephew, David Ryan. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Joe, and grandson, Justin.
Bill enlisted in the United States Navy in 1970 and retired as Chief Petty Officer after 20 years of service. He is a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he earned several medals including the Vietnamese Meritorious Unit Commendation and the Navy Commendation Medal. He was very proud of his military career and serving his country.
After retiring from the U.S. Navy, he continued his education by studying heating and air, and ultralow refrigeration. He worked for Four Seasons Environmental at both Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta, GA and at the United States Department of Agriculture at the Russell Research building in Athens, GA. He was an avid deer hunter and loved camping with his hunting buddies. He loved his girls and grandchildren, Nascar, football, and grilling out with his family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 1, 2018 from 6-8 at A. E. Carter funeral home in Madison, GA. The celebration of Bill’s life will be held on Tues, October 2, 2018 at 11:00 am in the chapel of A. E. Carter funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Ronald McDonald House in Pittsburgh, PA or the Make-A-Wish Foundation in Atlanta, GA. These two charities were dear to Bill because of his grandson, Justin.
