Melva E. Armistead peacefully passed into the arms of her Savior on June 22, 2019 at the age of 91.
She was born March 16, 1928 in Saratoga, IN to the late Willard and Velma (Coats) Addington. Mrs. Armistead was married to the late James O. Armistead for 56 wonderful years. She worked as a public accountant for Samuel J. London, CPA and later ran her own accounting business. She retired in 1986 and moved to Georgia in 1988. She continued to work part time assisting various CPA’s in the accounting field until 1994. For the past 30 years, Mrs. Armistead was the music director and pianist for Prospect United Methodist church.
Mrs. Armistead is survived by a daughter Debbie (Armistead) Zimmerman, grandchildren Jessica and Bobby (Melody), Great Grandchildren, Thomas, and Molly all of Rutledge, GA; Son, James F. Armistead, his wife, Pamela; grandchildren Daniel and Jennifer of Newark, DE; and Grandson, Matthew (Kayla), of State College, PA. Brother, Chester Addington of Hudsonsille, MI, a sister-in-law, Betty Armistead of Monticello, GA and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her sister, Esta Mae (Addington) Cunningham.
Family and friends will be receiving visitors at A.E. Carter Funeral Home, 1670 Atlanta Highway, Madison, GA 30650 on Friday, June 28, 2019 from 6-8 pm. Services will be at Prospect United Methodist Church on Prospect Rd. Rutledge, GA 30663 on Saturday, June 29th beginning at 2 pm.
