Juanita Harrison Obituary

GLORIA JUANITA HARRISON

FEB 27, 1935-DEC 13, 2019

On Friday the 13th of December 2019, beneath a full moon, Gloria Juanita Harrison took her last breath on this earth at 9:35 P.M. Only a seasoned nurse such as she could see the irony in that. She was a resident at the time under the loving care of her family and the staff at Abby Hospice in Social Circle Georgia. She met the diagnosis of lung cancer with the same courage and strength that she did everything in life and was well prepared for this day. God blessed us with her presence here on earth for 84 years. She was a strong woman with a loving heart and despite the crusty, stubborn exterior this was evident by the reflection of love, pain and sorrow left in the wake of her departure. However, we rejoice in her reunion with her loving husband of 59 years, her son, her parents, sisters, and a multitude of other family who joyfully awaited her arrival.

Juanita was born in Rutledge Georgia on February 27, 1935 to her parents J.C. and Carrie Bell Adcock. The oldest of 5 children, she was known for her no nonsense, take charge personality. She graduated from Morgan County High School and went on to receive a Diploma in Nursing from Georgia Baptist Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a nurse at DeKalb General for most of her life as a charge nurse taking great care of her patients and the staff that she was responsible for. During that time she married James Floyd “Red” Harrison and raised a son and daughter in their home in Stone Mountain Georgia. They enjoyed traveling with their close friends John and Geraldine Hall.

Their son died suddenly and unexpectedly in 2005 leaving a great void in their hearts. Juanita eventually retired from DeKalb Medical Center and she and her husband moved to Lake Oconee where she continued to live after his death in 2016. Juanita volunteered at the local hospital in Oconee as a Pink Lady and was well respected and liked by her co-workers, patients and staff. She attended Walker United Methodist Church in Green County. Juanita’s primary concern was always for her children and family. She always wanted to be sure that they were

well cared for and did whatever was in her power to accomplish that. She has also been a great companion to her sisters in the preceding years. She had her mother’s skill when it came to finding the best deals any time she went shopping and enjoyed the challenge of saving a buck and looked forward to sharing how she did it. She worked hard in her yard to keep it beautiful until her health no longer allowed for such activity.

Juanita is preceded in death by her loving husband James Floyd “Red” Harrison; Son James “Jimmy” Harrison; Parents J.C. and Carrie Bell Adcock; Sister Kay Hilsman Lariscy; and another sister who was stillborn but never forgotten by Juanita.

Juanita is survived by her loving daughter Jill Hall (Carl) who stayed by her side until the very end; two sisters Shirley Lancaster and Donna Knighten (Joe), one brother Billy “BA” Adcock (Ginger); three grandchildren Jonathan Hall, Joseph Harrison, and Michael Hall; one great grandchild Travis Hall; and a multitude of nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces who will all miss her dearly.
