Joel Johnston Obituary

Joel Henry Johnston, 90, of Rutledge, Ga, went home to be with the lord, on May 3, 2019. He was a native of Newborn, Ga, where he was one of five children of the late Eugene and Sadie Williams Johnston. Growing up he enjoyed roping on his horse, Rawhide.

He served in the US Army, where he was stationed in Germany during the Korean War from 1950-1952 as a Medic. He received medals for expert shooter with the M-1 carbine and also expert shooter with the 45 cal. Pistol.

He owned a large farm in Broughton, Ga until He moved to Rutledge, Ga in 1971, Where he and his wife raised their family for the last 48 years. He served as a Deacon at Centennial Baptist Church. He was a man that built and grew many things with his hands. He owned a welding shop, greenhouses, and a cabinet shop, where he worked his entire life.

He is survived by his wife, Anita McAdams Johnston of 67 years. Children: Tommy And Debra Johnston, Joey and the late, Lynn Johnston, Alan and Frances Johnston, Bill and Sherry Marshall, Jeffrey and Joy Johnston. Grandchildren: Shane Johnston, Allison Chick, Ashley Jones, Jeremy Marshall, Heather Vandiver, as well as nine great grandchildren.

He was a man anyone would be proud to have as a husband, father, grandfather and friend.
